Welcome!! :o)

I'm making this welcome message into a blog post and adding a list of main forum topics on the main page, hoping this will make things a bit easier to navigate.

This is probably the craziest thing I've ever done. I don't know much about gardening and I don't even have a yard to garden in... SO... why Gardens 4 Gaia?

First, Gaia needs our help, we cannot continue to conduct our lives in ways that plunder resources, pollute the planet and destroy… Continue

Why Gardens 4 Gaia?

Gardens4Gaia is an effort to encourage
everyone everywhere to grow edible food plants.

This site has 3 main goals:

~ to provide a clearinghouse of knowledge about all aspects of gardening... from container gardening for apartment dwellers like me to larger-scale 'niche' farming for those with enough land to start something new.

~ to gather information about regional native species, what grows best where and which plants are most practical from a nutritional and harvest-yield perspective.

~ to bring people back to the land, the single best way I can think of to do this is to dig in the dirt, get our hands dirty and see what happens! This can be a positive, grounding experience and from where I sit, we're going to need some "grounding" in the weeks and years ahead.

There is also a companion site at gardens4gaia.org that is meant to collect all the links to the best resources into a one stop shop, rather than having to read through postings here to find links to specific information. The dot org site is still under construction, although most of the links found here have been duplicated over there.

Welcome Mark Anthony!! As you can see, we haven't been very active around here lately... but there are some good resources posted here. Please feel free to add more -- maybe you'll inspire us to get more involved here. Lori

Eleanor, I have several plants in pots on my balcony... had not checked on them too much for a few days because we kept having rain every day or so. When I finally stepped out to check, the squash had taken over!! LOL!! I was stunned at the growth…

Well, I have been planted Peas, Squash, lettuce and spinach. Spinach didn't make it but the others are still small, but still growing, though one of my kitties ate the big leaf on the squash plant. I guess it must be good. Though, I did have a…
